For many years, unauthorized vehicle traffic and reckless driving posed a significant problem on the pedestrian streets of Kristianstad's city center. This caused discomfort for pedestrians and an increased risk of accidents. Therefore, Kristianstad Municipality decided to install bollards to prevent unauthorized traffic on the city center's pedestrian streets.

The trade organization Kristianstad City, which has been involved in the discussions, was relieved that the bollards were put in place.
– "We have had discussions for a long time, and we are pleased that they are in place. They can prevent break-ins and hinder traffic that should not be on the pedestrian streets. People should be able to feel safe there," says Tin Josefsdotter, operations manager at Kristianstad City, in an article to Kristianstadsbladet.

Store owner Mats Kvist at Ekbergs Man, Woman & Home, told Kristianstadsbladet:
– "We have fought for this for ten years. We have pedestrian streets, but it is used as a thoroughfare for cars. Vehicles drive here that have no business on pedestrian streets. It is forbidden to drive there at certain times of the day. If you are shopping in a store or sitting at an outdoor terrace at a restaurant, you should feel secure that your children can run freely without risking being hit. It is a question of safety."
